What’s In Your Greenline Sofa?

Contoured Hardwood frames – Yellow poplar, birch, or maple – depending on style, wood availability and component. Frames are wood-glued, screwed, and corner-blocked for stability and strength.

Sinuous springs/hand-tied coils – All steel springs are recycled and recyclable.

Natural burlap – 100% natural jute burlap is used as a base layer over springs, while jute webbing is used as support for coils and backs on certain styles.

Raw cotton padding – Unbleached, natural cotton wadding is used as cushioning over burlap.

Eco-Felt – Needle-punched and pressed 100% wool padding, with no post-processing or dyes applied. This felt is used on inside and outside arms, as well as throughout the pieces, protecting upper layers of padding and the client’s fabric from rubbing against the frames.

Recycled Felt -Where polyester is acceptable, we use a recycled felt product, derived from the textile industry. This is used in the same manner as Eco-Felt, and cushions the fabric and other padding from the hardwood frames.

Natural latex - Our 100% pure latex does not use synthetic or other fillers, like soy or polyurethane. Used over the base layers, latex is what gives the comfort and padding to support your chair or sofa fabric.

100% Cotton Flannel – Used on the outside back, as well as under the Eco-Felt layers on the arms, this cotton is used as a support to keep additional layers from slumping, and to smooth contours of the latex..

100% Cotton Piping Cord –Piping is sewn on the bias, allowing it to stay straight and neat over the years.

Cushioning

Fixed/solid backs – Backs are padded using 100% natural latex, and overlaid with cotton flannel or wool batting, depending on the style.

Loose Back Cushion Fills - Contained in unbleached, down-proof 100% cotton ticking, these sewn channels help to maintain loft, while keeping cushion fills from slumping to the bottom. Additional fill is added to the lumbar baffle, for superior spine support.

Seat and Back Cushion Options - We offer various cushion fill options, from Latex to wool.

Cushions - Cushions are zipped, reversible, and interchangeable where possible, to extend wear and for ease of maintenance.

Legs

Brown maple solids, Birch or Rubberwood – depending on style of leg.

Notes:

Our eco-friendly lines are built using the most appropriate natural materials, fibres, and building methods we have developed or found. As part of our practice of working to build some of the finest upholstered furniture available in North America, we reserve the right to modify the application and materials used in the construction of your furnishings, as we find better options, or better uses, for existing fibres. We will do our best to keep you updated on any major changes.

Polyester is used as a standard in several layers. *to avoid all polyester products, please make a note of this at the time of ordering, and we will make appropriate substitutes.

There will always be a few differences between our eco-friendly lines and our standard lines, namely the ‘plumpness’ of the furniture. Wool felt and latex are excellent hard-wearing materials, but will not mask the same ‘lumps’ that are often rendered invisible by polyester or polyurethane foams and paddings.

Similar to a natural leather hide, or a natural linen weave, many small irregularities are considered inherent hallmarks of fine furnishings, as they are built using traditional methods and materials, and should be expected.
